History of the Tournament

Timeline of the Dow Tennis Classic

1974 The Midland Community Tennis Center is established by with foundational support from community members, like former Dow President Paul Oreffice. It consisted of only six courts brought in from other locations.

1989 - 2021 The United States Tennis Association has been competing in Midland since 1989. It was the longest running women’s stop on the USTA Pro Circuit.

2010 - 2020 The tournament was a part of the International Tennis Federation Women’s Circuit.

2017 - 2026 The Dow Corning Tennis Classic was renamed to the Dow Tennis Classic following The Dow Chemical Company rebranding.

2021 The tournament got promoted to be a Women’s Tennis Association 125 event. It was moved from a Winter event to a Fall event.

2026 The Dow Tennis Classic is shifted to be held in the Winter.
