Exciting Shift: Dow Tennis Classic Set for February
REBECCA MARINO; 2024 CHAMPION
MIDLAND, MICH., June 18, 2025 — The return of the Dow Tennis Classic, Michigan’s largest professional tennis tournament, is making a highly anticipated shift back to its traditional February timeslot in 2026.
The tournament was originally scheduled for November 2025, following four successful years in a late-season timeslot prompted by changes to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) calendar. This move revives a proud February tradition that helped shape the tournament’s legacy and reputation over more than three decades.
“We are excited to go back to our 33-year history of hosting this event in February,” said Jeff Rekeweg, Executive Director of the Greater Midland Tennis Center. “This change not only honors our tradition but also provides an exciting early season showcase for the rising WTA talent. We appreciate the WTA’s collaboration and support in making this transition possible.”
Held at the Greater Midland Tennis Center, the tournament has become a favorite among players on the WTA circuit. Known for its strong community support and world-class hospitality, the Dow Tennis Classic continues to raise the bar for fun, thrilling professional tennis and bringing the people of our region together.
The announcement follows a landmark year for the tournament. In 2024, the Dow Tennis Classic was awarded #3 WTA 125 tournament in the world and #1 in the Americas — a prestigious recognition of the event’s quality, professionalism, and electric atmosphere. Greater Midland has partnered with Topnotch Events for the last three years to help execute and elevate the overall experience for players and patrons.
“The WTA award that the Dow Tennis Classic received was a testament to the investment and support the community continues to provide. Topnotch is proud to partner with this historic event, building upon its tradition, while continuing to evolve year after year,” commented Alex Guthrie, Topnotch Director of Events and DTC Tournament Manager.
“The Dow Tennis Classic is one of the most exciting weeks of the year for our region,” Terri Johnson, CEO of Greater Midland, reflects on the impact on the community. “Bringing it back to February creates a unique synergy with other professional sports in our area. It’s another example of how the Great Lakes Bay Region continues to thrive as a destination for top-tier athletic experiences year-round.”
The Dow Tennis Classic returns February 15-22, 2026, continuing its legacy as a standout stop on the WTA calendar and a cherished Midwest tradition.
